Dharma Yoga - Sri Dharma Mittra's Great Practise
Event occurs in the past
Workshop lead by
Justine Hoang
Held at Rama Lotus Yoga Centre
Friday October 19th • 7:45pm-9:15pm
In order to attain enlightenment, one must be willing to open one's mind to the vast possibilities and truths that exist in the external world, and to unleash the endless potential that exists within the Self. Such are the main ingredients for growth in the Dharma Yoga tradition; hence the catch-all phrase "Be receptive"...
This workshop exemplifies the hatha-raja based practise that was developed from 50+ years of experience and knowledge. Founded by the legendary 'Rock of Yoga', Sri Dharma Mittra, this style of yoga is a great solution for those who are seeking to deepen and expand their practise from all angles. It captures all the essential elements, through the enforcement of the 8 limbs of yoga. You will therefore have the opportunity to experience a fuller range of the yoga practise, including asana, pranayama (breathing techniques), chanting, yogic philosophy, meditation and guided relaxation. The result is an intensely rich, satisfying and holistic experience that leaves one feeling serene and grounded.
In terms of the physical practise, it starts off with Sri Dharma Mittra's infamous Shiva Namaskar vinyasa flow to warm up the body. This is followed up by a sequence of deeper postures, which provides students more opportunity to discover the benefits and explore their abilities. This is an all-levels class, although a minimum of 1 year of consistent yoga practise is suggested, since the flow can tend to be fairly vigorous, and features some postures that typically correspond to an intermediate level or beyond. That said, one of the most distinguishing and admirable characteristics of the Dharma Yoga physical practise is the versatility of the sequence, which lends itself very nicely to modifying up or down. Students are encouraged to stay within their comfort zone and to explore alternatives suggested by the teacher. Please inform the teacher of any injuries or physical limitations prior to the start of the class.
In observance of Sri Dharma's deep love for all living things, proceeds from this workshop will be forwarded to a charitable foundation whose goals are the protection and sustainment of animal species and/or ecosystems.
