Connected by "Chants"
In September 2003, Amanda Rheaume, 21, was diagnosed as suffering from anxiety and panic disorder. She had always been interested in yoga, and she started a daily yoga practice in order to learn how to relax.

Twice now, for 40 days straight, Dave Schubert, 30, and his wife Michele, 28, have practiced daily Kundalini Yoga sets designed for a specific purpose. Called kriyas, these sets of poses and meditations are carefully crafted with specific effects in mind, such as to open the heart, to release fear or anger or to improve and strengthen the immune system.

There's No Place like Home
Diane Desrochers, 49, started Kundalini Yoga during a tumultuous time in her life. As a newly single mother, she was looking to heal and to forgive. “I was caught up in elements of separation and anxiety and much self-questioning,” she says. “I needed some guidance, and a way to release the tensions. And I found that the more I practiced Kundalini Yoga, the more I felt the tension in my body release.”

Relief through Yoga
Garry Mould, an active 63-year-old retiree, had a terrible spill when riding his bicycle on the Gatineau parkway in August 2002. When a leaf fluttered into the front wheel, Garry reached down to knock it out of place. His hand got caught between the spokes, the wheel jammed, and he hurled head first onto the ground. He suffered a badly bent back and a concussion. After dozens of physiotherapy and chiropractic sessions, Garry found relief with yoga.

New Year's Resolution
Lucille Legault, 59, made a New Year's resolution at the beginning of the year 2000 to improve her health. Her step-sister had died six weeks before, and the emotional impact was still there. "It shook my brain," says Lucille, "And I knew I had to do something to make my health better."

"It makes me feel wonderful"
Margot Robinson, 42, donated a kidney to her sister in western Canada in July 2002 and found Kundalini Yoga helpful in her convalescence. "When they removed my kidney, I felt numb in my back," says Margot, "but the yoga helped me so much that I'm not as numb anymore. The anesthesia can be hard on you, but my yoga practice helped me feel healthier."

Good Vibrations
Shadi Aghaei, 32, a government lawyer, says that practicing Kundalini Yoga helped her change her routine. "People look for things to do to make them feel good," she says. "My friends who talk to me about quitting smoking or having the blues or having lost jobs, I tell them how Kundalini Yoga has a deeply calming effect as it helps to relieve stress. There's a real feel-good aspect to practicing yoga."
