Akhanda Yoga
Akhanda (meaning whole or unbroken tradition) has an
emphasis on the balanced sequencing of asana, pranayama, relaxation, mantra and meditation as well as discussions and readings on the yogic lifestyle and yoga philosophy. This integral and holistic approach to yoga classes is intended to give students access to more of the diverse teachings and techniques that the yoga system has to offer.

Hatha Yoga
A classic approach to yoga that emphasizes physical detail and focus. An accessible way to learn the basic postures and breathing techniques of yoga while restoring your energy, strength and flexibility. A great class for beginner and intermediate students.

Hatha Gentle

This class offers a gentle and healing approach to Hatha yoga.  While appropriate for all, this practice can be used in the case of particular ailments to provides techniques for preventing and managing health concerns. The postures are designed to soften and deepen muscle tissue and to awaken the body's natural structural alignment and movement. Great for all levels!

Somayog

Somayog focuses on promoting correct alignment, increasing mobility and flexibility of the spine, developing strength of core muscles and unfolding sensory awareness.  An added benefit is the ability 'to relax on a dime'.  Deceptively easy and disarmingly repetitive, it is a sophisticated and advanced form of yoga that reveals layers of depth through its practice.

Yin Yoga

Yoga as practiced in North America is almost exclusively Yang or muscular in nature. The Yin aspect of Yoga uses long-held relaxed floor postures to stretch and stimulate the “Yin” or deep connective tissues of the body.  The two major differences between a Yin and a Yang Yoga practice are that Yin postures should be done with the muscles relaxed and should be held a longer time. This is because connective tissue does not stretch like muscle and will not respond well to brief stresses. This gentle practice will increase your flexibility, opening your hips, lower back and shoulders and will enhance your overall sense of well-being.

Yin/Yang Yoga

Designed to offer the balancing effects of yin (passive) and yang (active) styles of yoga.  The first half of each class begins with Sun Salutations and flows through energetic yang-style Hatha standing postures.  Quiet, passive and more contemplative seated Yin postures will follow.  The class concludes with pranayama and relaxation.  See Hatha and Yin descriptions for more detail.
