Yin Yoga *
Yoga as practiced in North America is almost exclusively Yang or muscular in nature. The Yin aspect of Yoga uses long-held relaxed floor postures to stretch and stimulate the "Yin" or deep connective tissues of the body. The two major differences between a Yin and a Yang Yoga practice are that Yin postures should be done with the muscles relaxed and should be held a longer time. This is because connective tissue does not stretch like muscle and will not respond well to brief stresses. This gentle practice will increase your flexibility, opening your hips, lower back and shoulders and will enhance your overall sense of well-being. It is a wonderful complement to other yoga practices.
Yin/Yang Yoga *
Designed to offer the balancing effects of yin (passive) and yang (active) styles of yoga. The first half of each class begins with Sun Salutations and flows through energetic yang-style Hatha standing postures. Quiet, passive and more contemplative seated Yin postures will follow. The class concludes with pranayama and relaxation. See Hatha and Yin descriptions for more detail.
Yoga for Runners †
Yoga for Runners will help you feel more agile and flexible, give you greater strength and stamina, and will encourage the right frame of mind needed to reach your full potential. The postures, breathing techniques and meditations included in this class will complement your running. There will be an emphasis on building greater core strength and developing more lower body strength and flexibility. Maintaining a well-balanced body is crucial for avoiding injuries. No yoga experience required. Suitable for runners of all abilities and experience.
